I would just dip the cloth in your own fabric softener an let it dry or you can use the dryer sheet.

How to Make Your Own Reusable Fabric Softener Dryer Sheets
6 C hot water, 3 C white vinegar, 2 C conditioner (hair, any brand)
6 cups water 3 cups white vinager 2 cups hair conditioner all in a gallon contaner.use the same amount you would normally use in the dispenser. Or you can spritz it on a wash cloth and throw in the dryer.
You could use a liquid softener in last rinse
You can use tennis balls wrapped in aluminum foil, at least two , in your dryer instead of fabric softener.
I don't know where I originally saw this idea; but I bought a bunch of cheap sponges, cut them in 1/2 and put them in a small storage container. I then added some liquid fabric softener, just enough to moisten the sponges. When the clothes go in the dryer, I put a sponge or two in the dryer (making sure I squeeze out any excess liquid from the sponge(s).
I have been doing this for several years and I am very satisfied with the results and believe I have saved a ton of money and no dryer sheets to the landfill.
While I haven't used detergent or fabric softeners in over 10 years thanks to my LaundryPure from Vollara. The reason I don't use fabric softener sheets is they have petroleum chemicals in them. Additionally, the petroleum while it makes things soft, prevents towels from absorbing water easily. Once baked into your clothes will liquify and absorb into your skin when you get hot and sweat. Sorry, but I am a firm believer in NOT using chemicals. In lieu of tghem, you can use tennis balls to eliminate the static.
