wipe it over with Wet Wipe then wax polish it. If it is black and has lost it's colour you could use "Black Magic" Paint. or black shoe polish.......

I use a Brillo or similar soap pad. Cast iron cleans up well with that. Yes, then wax polish it after cleaning so it doesn't rust.
If it is dirt just use any house hold cleaner, if it's surface rust gently go over it with a wire brush then clean it. You need to seal it after it is dry or paint it.
Vinegar and water.
I would be very careful using an acid like vinegar on cast iron. It would have to be very well diluted.
