You need to wait until the temperature reaches the 60s.
Hi Mary. As soon as the ground has thawed you can plant grass seed. I put a thin layer of top soil down first and then spread the seed. Use a garden rake to lightly rake it in. Then I cover it with hay to help keep it moist and to keep the birds from eating the seed. Water it everyday for a few weeks. Good Luck!
Wait until the soil is warmer, most seeds like warm moist soil to germinate.
Temperature has to be consistently above 60 degrees, and be sure to keep the area moist.
you cannot seed yet it is to cold.Ground temps must remain at a temperature 60 or above...for the procedure apply several inches of top soil, lime.grass seed for your area,starter fertilizer,and top with peat moss...keep moist until the seed germinates
