Plain old vinegar and baking soda!

I use vinegar and baking soda in each load of laundry as I do not use fabric softener, I use vinegar in the rinse and felted wool dryer balls in the dryer.
Run a hot water wash in the empty tub with a couple of cups of white vinegar.
The best way to clean your front loading washer is simple:
Allow the cycle to run until it has completed.

I use 1 cup of white vinegar and run my washer on the hottest setting
I run the washer with old rags and bleach on hot, cleans the rags and disinfects the washer. Vinegar works too, I fill the washer add vinegar and let it sit on soak for a bit, empty and spin the washer, voila.
