How late or early can I plant cabbage seeds in the ground?

Im in northern Arkansas and I have had recent shoulder surgery so I'm a bit under the weather, I prepared my raised boxes removed weeds, added compost and I want to plant cabbage seed in the boxes. what I need to know is how late can I plant the seeds and still get cabbage heads before it gets to hot. Since you are still on the mend, why not buy some cabbage plants to plant this year instead of planting from seed.
we were trying to save on money but may have to buy plants.
