Slap board? What's that? I like your twine/clothespins ideas. You could also get lengths of 1" wide grosgrain ribbon and clip your pics to that.
Floating shelves with various picture frames make it easy to change the pictures. If you live near a beach, how about a net up on the slap board and clip the pictures to the net? There are all kinds colored wire that could look really attractive with pictures hung on it. You could permanently mount the wire to the wall with some decorative hooks and let the pictures do the rest. I've seen rod iron across a space with leather hanging down that holds pictures on different levels. Or take your wire and make a flattened spring out of it. Mount one end to the wall and have the spring holding the picture - easy to change out that way if it is mounted on some stiff paper.
Look into command strips...no nails or holes needed...I am sure you can find something that will work.
