In your plants and your compost
coffee grounds are only used on acidic plants, crushed eggs steel can be used for tomatoes or to aid in a slug control
Crushed egg shells are also good to keep grubs and snails off your hostas and such. Tomatoes and other acid loving plants like coffee grounds. Tomatoes love egg shells for the calcium, but unless they are pulverized they take a long time to put the calcium in the soil to give it a boost of calcium that they need to prevent blossom end rot. You can put both in when you plant, mixed in the soil, or top dress.
I use them for tomatoes and roses.
I've mixed in the soil and also spread on top of existing bed, just kind of stir it in a bit.
Do not put a lot of coffee grounds on the soil unless you have acid loving plants like azaleas and rhododendrons. They like the grounds after they've bloomed. Crushed egg shells are great around tomato plants as they take a lot of calcium from the soil. Know your soil and know your plants for optimum growth.
Coffee grounds are applied to acidify soil for acid-loving plants like rhododendrons, azaleas, camileas etc. All plants can benefit from the calcium of crushed egg shells. You apply them to the ground under the plant canopy.
Crushed eggs shells make a great barrier to keep out slugs. They will cut themselves and die if they cross it.
