Get a soil test done through your County Agricultural Extension Office. They are not expensive (around $10.00) and will tell you everything you need to know to fix your soil. They have a lot of plant knowledge so you can ask them also. Or to find plants, go to your local plant nursery. You can see the plants they are talking about before you make a choice.
There are ground covers, like creeping fig, that might work! Ask your lawn center!
