try Holly Hock. Grows to 6 or 7 feet and flowers almost all summer long.
You have to be careful what you plant or place near the unit so you don't affect its performance. I would place an attractive fence section near it instead of a plant since plants grow and can get out of control, where the fence will stay the same size.
I have seen tall grasses and it looks very pretty. They don’t grow out of control and they are airy and don’t impede the flow of air.
I totally agree with fiddledd224, some plants have roots that can and will wind their way into your unit or vines that will grow into your unit. Today you can find beautiful fences that can be made to look like they totally belong.
