You could have your paint custom matched to the cement color you want. If you have any pieces of chipped cement or a small cement block--you could take it and have it color matched.
What color is your house
You might choose a color to coordinate with your house. For example, if your house is an earthy color you might paint the steps dark brown. Or if your house is white or a very light color you can just choose a color you like. A white house with black steps would look formal, green steps could exhibit your love of growing things, blue steps could give you a nautical/ocean/sky feel depending on the hue you choose. You might also try rag-rolling a deeper grey over what you have in place to give it a more "cement" look. Use dark grey to draw irregular lines or a grid, or try stenciling something onto your grey steps with a darker gray, using the lighter background to set off the stencil. Good luck.
Since your house is yellow with black shutters, black steps would fit right in. I cannot imaging why anyone would add red to that!? Since I am a little rebellious, I would paint them black and yellow sunflowers or daffodils! But do what will make you happy.
How about painting a pattern on them? You could make them look like brick or stone.
