Hi Ahsley. I would label them by what week you plan on paying them keeping in mind what weeks you get paid, or what week they are due.
You could keep the next due on one end. Label each with what it is and when the due date is, if you want you can even put how much it is also. Always keep the next one due first in line, etc.
You could also paint the clothes pins in colors. Red for ones that need attention right away and so on. Also what about writing the date due by on with a marker on the clothes pin? Put them in order on the rope and you will know at a quick glance what is coming up next and when.
I would use sticky post-it-notes on each one showing what bill it is, the amount due, the date it is due and a "mail by" date to make sure you don't get a late fee. Cost would be the cost of a pad of post-it notes. Your method is much better than letting them pile up on the counter. You could use a decorative ribbon or a pretty piece of cording but the one you have does the job.
I keep all my bills on a clip as they come in I label the right corner with the date it is due and put them in order with the earliest Due date in front. Keeps them in order and conveniently together. I also usually label the due date one day before actually due to give you a little Buffer.
Hang them in order of when they need to be paid, and I would write the due date and amount on the outside of the envelop. As Lokie suggested, color coding the clothespins might help show what's urgent, etc. Also, if you pay by cash or money orders, start putting money in the ones due soonest and it might be easier then the whole amount coming out in a chunk.
I'm not sure if my answer went through because when I clicked the button it didn't work. If it comes up more than once, I'll try to come back and delete the duplicates.
Hi Ashley,
I used to keep mine in a DIY decorated box with tabs for each day of the month. I put the bills behind the day that I needed to mail them, as well as other projects for that day. So let's say I have a bill that I need to mail on the first. When the first of the month comes along. I'd look behind the date tab then move it to the back and do everything that was between the 1 & the 2. Everyday, I would look behind that day's tab and again move it to the back then do anything that was there. By the end of the month, the tabs had all been put in the back so that they were back in order again. Then one day, I got tired of paying bills now and then so I set a date near when most of them were due. Then I called the companies that had any due not near that date and asked them to change my due date to help me stay organized. Now I pay bills once a month on the 25th of the month because they are now all in sync and due about the same time. It saves me time, the companies all know when they will get paid and there is no confusion at all. If, perchance I go to pay a bill and it's not there, I look up the total online or I call the company and send the right amount anyway. Over all the years, I've been doing this, there was only 1 company who would not change their date so paid an extra month ahead of time so that they always got paid at the same time - even if the bill wasn't due.
Another way to do it, its to put a reminder on your phone or calendar to pay a bill on a certain day. Also, if you pay your bills from an online account at your bank, you can set each one up to be paid automatically on a specific date. As soon as it comes in the mail, login to your bank and set it up for 1 month only. Or if it's the same every month you can set up for it to go automatically every month on the same date.
BTW, I do think your method is cute. :) If it works for you, then you should probably continue to do it, unless you really don't want your bills hanging around for everyone to see. I also looked up some other ways to organize your bills. Click on the link below to see what I found. Wishing you the best.
