When they jump up, spray them with a water gun. It won't hurt them, but they don't like it, and you will condition them not to jump up. You can also put sheets of aluminum foil on the counters--cats don't like the noise and/or feeling under their feet.

Hello! My daughter keeps a small spray bottle of water handy and gives kitty a spray — she jumps down immediately. After awhile kitty jumps up on the counter less and less. Good luck!
This sounds terrible, but sprinkle red pepper on the counter. Leave it there for a few days. They sniff it a couple times and will not get on the counters again. It works for dogs that like to act like vacuum cleaners on counters also. Dogs and cats are sneaky smart and do things behind your back - that's why you have to leave it there for a few days.

When my cat is on or getting into something I don't want her too, I yell Git, and she's learned get off or out of what ever she's up too. Some people have also used double sided tape on their counters to train their cats.
