I like New Guinea Impatiens. They have GREAT color and thrive in the shade.
Surprisingly there are many flowers that prefer shade. I have a peace lily that is on a covered porch that never gets light. Then my orchids are only in bright light, not direct. For those that are planted outdoors, many hostas have a bloom and begonias are one of my favorites.

Most begonias don't need a lot of sun, I use the bright colored ones, like red-orange and yellow tuberous begonias. There are many that don't require full day sun.
Begonias, clematis vines and on a trellis, nothing prettier than Passion Flower ..needs shade but flowers are 'other-worldly' !!
