My question as I watched these grandparents was always, "Why are you sweeping your yards, and why is there no grass around your house?" We have grass around ours.
Use Wet and Forget safe for all surfaces
Spray with peroxide or a bleach and water mixture! Is this facing north? Generally that is where it will build up.... Keeping the area dry is mandatory!
I have the same problem on my roof, asphalt driveway, etc. Some shade in the yard, but mostly the continually damp, wet winters in Oregon. Moss-Out doesn't work, I know that.
Kill it with bleach first, you may have to squeegee after rains it to keep it dry, paint it with a sealer like thompson's
