There is a washing machine cleaner you can get
run a cycle with white vinegar
The machine may need a good inspection to see if there is any mould growth. Often times there was an overflow and areas remained damp too long. Clean with either a water/vinegar solution or a diluted bleach solution. Then run an empty cycle using hot water and bleach to clean our the rest of the lines. That should reduce the smell.
Hot water and 1 gallon of white vinegar. That is what I do when the washer smells funky. Just run through an entire long cycle. I hope this helpsπ
Tide makes a product for this -- or you can run an 'empty' load with HOT water and a cup of baking soda instead ... if a front loader, this is a common issue -- check w/ your mfg -- some are offering a new door seal; that's where the 'mold' collects -- also even with a top loader, leave the door open !
Clean it. Chances are it is the fabric softener cup. Vinegar works the best. See if these help!

Clean your seals and run an empty load with a cup of bleach.
My go to is Alfresh. Itβs wonderful! You stick the tab in the washing machine through a wash cycle on hot and it takes the smells right on out. They sell it in boxes if 3. I buy mine online unless u find it on sale somewhere.
