How Long should you keep an electric blanket?

I have an electric blanket that was at the bottom of my hope chest and forgot I had it. It looks like it's in GREAT condition and hardly used in 30 years but I am wanting to be safe & not have a fire while sleeping! Does anyone know what I should check for or should I just toss it out? Thank you!!!

Your electric blanket should be replaced at least every 10 years. Keeping your electric blanket for longer than you should is potentially dangerous and is another fundamental safety tip to be aware of.

Since the wiring is thirty years old and has been folded you won't know what condition it is in. If this were my find I would toss it and not take any chances

Electric blankets, especially the old ones are notorious for causing fires. If it were mine and I used it, I would NOT plug it in. My sister's daughter had a fire in the middle of the night with hers.

I agree with the others. You haven't missed it in 30 years so I'd just toss it.

With one that uses your own body heat at least it can’t malfunction and burn you
