Sliding doors always create a problem because in some areas, you want some privacy.
Next to the door, use a round rod and put grommets in your sheers so they will slide easily.
Then use 2 short rods on each side if you wish to curtain the door. Some people use decorative towel rods here. Or..
You can put up sheers and then put a plain or fancy cornice box over the top of the sheers. You could make it large enough to staple some curtains to the front to hand down on each side.
Hi Melony...I have a 6’ slider in my kitchen eating area and originally used sliding panels for awhile. Now settled on drapes but I don't get the wide panels. I get 4 regular sized panels which gives me the option to open several different ways. I can push all to one side, open in the center or leave two panels in the center with one at each side. Works for me.
There are sliding shade panels for glass doors. I know JC Penney sells them, and by googling I found them at Houzz, Overstock, and Home Depot, among others.
When hanging the drapes, make sure the ends of all panels are all pointing towards the outside. Then, when you are looking at the drapes you will only see the rounded folds and they are easy to arrange. I used four panels. My rod extends a bit beyond the frame so I can also push them to expose the whole door. Drapes are thin, slight open weave. Hope this helps! See attached.

Ikea offers these sliders. I believe they also come in white. Very clean, contemporary look if that’s your style.
Hi! I had problems like yours when we had sliders. I finally hung a rod that extended past the frame and above the top frame. Then, when open, I could just push them off to the side. I couldn't find the style I wanted, so I bought king size flat sheets and used the hem to put the rod through. They were nice and wide, so I only needed two. Then, I hemmed them to the length I wanted. They provided privacy and were easy to wash and easy on my budget. Stay safe!
