Howbto make a bird bath

I want to dig a hole in the sand to make the dish of my bird bath. Should i line the hold/mold with plastic sheeting. I am using concrete and pottery shards, marbles, glass gems, and tumbled glass . the base is an old terra cota pot in need of some painting. Can i use a sealant paint for the base.

That's so creative. I would line the mold otherwise the sand will stick to the concrete or the dish may not even come out smooth. Seal the base with outdoor poly.
