My vote is for bottom freezer, as that is what I bought. Here is why. I liked having full sized shelves for big things like party size bowls and sheet cakes. Even when it is just me, I like having ample refrigerator space. For me function takes place over anything else. My appliances are black, as that was in at the time and white was special order. Not a fan of stainless as most are not real stainless until you get to the higher end brands. And I do not want my kitchen to look like an commercial institution. Strictly personal preference, but I love the bottom freezer.
Ask yourself what you will be getting into the most the freezer or the fridge. Make what you will access the most to be a the most convenient height. For me that would be the fridge. Only access the freezer at the most once a day (ice cubes) but the fridge at least a dozen times a day.
I prefer the double-door/bottom freezer drawer. It is much more user-friendly for me than the side-by-side was. On the side-by-side all the shelves were narrow and frustrating for me to use. You can chose the color you wish and check out the features you want. Your final decision will be determined by the total features you want and the total amount you feel you can spend.
Bottom freezer
I also prefer the freezer drawer on bottom. I used to have the door-by-door fridge/freezer. There were a lot of things that would not fit in my slim freezer space. Now I have the double door refrigerator with big wide shelves and I love it.
bottom freezer, definitely!
bottom, they say side by side has more room but it really doesnt..
Bottom freezer, definitely!! If for nothing else, a frozen pizza won't usually fit in a side by side
I have both and can't say that I love either one. But if I had to choose, it'd be the bottom freezer. I'd buy KitchenAid or even LG...and I'd never buy a Samsung again (major icemaker issues, ha, just google it). Btw...large pizzas don't fit in either fridge. I bought a small chest freezer for those larger items.
Top Freezer units are considered the most energy efficient. If you need the space, bottom freezer would be best.
