Up cycle Wood CD rack stand

We have this heavy solid wood CD Rack that we got for free. I searched Pinterest for upcycle ideas, but haven't seen anything practical that may be useful to us. Have any ideas?
Collections of small things--matchbox cars, model cars, china teacups, sea shells. Paperback books or small hardcovers stacked in piles interspersed with figurines or things you enjoy/collect. Canned goods in the cellar. Craft supplies. Painting or wallpapering the back of the shelves in a lighter color would highlight the items on the shelves. Paint it white or cream with the backs of shelves in rainbow shades or ombres especially for a kid's room (anchored to the wall for safety). Shoe rack in a walk-in closet. Sell it on Craigs list and get something you really want! Live with it a while and see what occurs to you; think outside the box!
