The wallpaper can be removed. There is a tool known as a "scoring" tool which has sharp short teeth that can be rotated onto the paper. It will create scratches/holes in the paper that is adhered to the wall. Then spray the wallpaper with warm water and let sit for a few moments, The water will soften the wallpaper and make it more easy to remove by pulling on some of the areas already ripped. It is rather tedious work but will be worth it. Continue to repeat the process until all the paper is removed then go over the entire area with a damp cloth to remove any remaining wallpaper and paste. You can then prime and paint your walls after filling any nail holes from pictures and wall decor. Good luck on your project.
Yes! I did this! Go get some enzyme wall paper remover, usually in a spray bottle .with a sharp tool or seam marker (those wheels with the little spikes in them for marking cloth or paper) slash or make holes thru the old paper. Spray esp around the seams and edges. Follow waiting directions, then you should be able to peel off large pieces, respraying where the paper sticks. Very stuck pieces can be sprayed the scraped off. It's better to buy more spray then you need so you can really soak the paper and have enough as you go along.
Removing wallpaper is as easy or as hard as the care taken by those who hung it. If the wall was prepped the right way, removing it will not be difficult. It’s never fun! A good sign might be the peeling at the seams, indicating it’s not that secure to the wall.
Score and steam!

The more you score the more steam gets in and easier to remove. Any tool rental will have what you need.
