First of all, determine just how many you REALLY need. Most people can get by with a half dozen. I just find it easier to store things in dishes or ziplocs. Many of the older plastic containers aren't food safe anyways. Nest the containers,, perhaps place them on an old cookie sheet to slide in and out, then attach or hang a lid organizer inside the door, like this one..

What I did is I put mine under the cabinet. I put all lids in a dish rack and organized from small to larger then I organized all the cantainer on the side.
Match all lids with a container. Get rid of excess. Get rid of any stained, warped containers/lids. Consider getting sets that stack. Get rid of any sizes you no longer need or use, donate good ones to church kitchen, Salvation Army, Vets or Senior Citizens group, Women's shelter, homeless shelter, etc. Then and only then find a container or rack within which to store them. Most of mine store on top of the stacked containers on a self in the cabinets. The rest are in a plastic Tupperware container, a clear plastic shoe box would work too. The Dollar Store has some inexpensive plastic "baskets" in the kitchen section that you might want to consider. If your drawer is deep enough, adding a sorter might work. Of course, you could always use foam board and make custom dividers, or use cereal boxes etc to make custom drawer cubbies.
I just redid my cupboard I have my containers in. I put all the lids in a large box from K-cups and put them by size and shape. I nested as many as I could by shape and size. I also got rid of a number of things that I never use anymore and were pretty old and not always in the best shape. My cupboard is now easy to find what I want, and the glass casseroles and other things in the back are even reachable (in back of the cupboard to keep them grandkid safe).
