    Hello there,

As High as you can reach, then maybe if you have room add lower ones for trousers etc.

    Hope that was of help.

    Agree with Johnavallance82.

I would suggest that you hang the closet rod as high as it can go while still being able to hang up a hanger comfortably. The raised height of the rod will allow for double vertical hangers which make for more efficient use of the space in the closet. (examples below)

Forget about putting an upper shelf that is commonly above the rod. IMO stuff just piles up and falls off because it is too high and cramped for practical everyday use.

Instead, mount a wall-to-wall shelf at the bottom of the closet, close to the floor. Items on this lower shelf will be easy to see, easy to access, and easy to keep neat. This lower shelf will also keep items off the floor and enable easier vacuuming of the floor.

It all depends on your height & what is in your wardrobe.

Our house came with a large closet with a shelf on top & I really like this set-up. Items stored there are varied and not needed too often.

The actual rod is about 2" above my height. Multiple layers are hung on vertical hangers.

  • If you'd like a double rod, hang the top one at 80-82" from the floor and the bottom one at 40". A single rod can be placed at 60", then you have space for shelves above it.

A typical closet can include two levels of hanging rods. As a rule, place the top rod 80 to 82-inches up from the floor and the bottom rod about 40-inches up from the floor. For a single rod application, plan 60-inches from the floor for placement.

It will depend on if it is a single or double. This article should help:

  • I would do anywhere from 60-80" from floor depending on your height.

Hi Hbu. I have double rods in my closet. I used my clothes to determine rod placement. I put a pair of jeans on a hanger to see how high the rod should be. So that rod was placed 38 inches from the floor. Same for the top rod. I put a shirt on a hanger and held it up to see where the top rod should be placed. I put it up 77 inches from the floor. In another part of the closet I have a single rod 65 inches from the floor. I use it for my long dresses and coats. Good luck Hbu.

Hi! I have a closet system that is adjustable for all the reasons mentioned. See what length clothing you need more height for. In my case, I wear mostly separates, so I need most of my hanging space to be eye level for me with a row below it for pants, skirts, etc. with a section without the second rod so I can hang longer pieces. Keep that in mind when hanging the rods. If you want shoe storage underneath, you will want the rods slightly higher. If you are putting a shelf for storage in, you want to be able to reach any bins. Good luck and stay safe!

  • I think that depends on how you plan to use your closet. I would make a plan on paper. Do you have long items? Short items? Do you want one bar or two? Think about it, then set the bars where you can reach them, because standard heights aren't very helpful if you need a stool to reach your clothes. Happy organizing!

I have 2-level and 1-level rods in my house. The single rods are about 70" from floor with shelf above that. My double rod closet has rods at 36" and 77". Dimension of clothes and your ability to reach clothes is what is important.

Put the top one as high as you can reach and another one below it as low as possible for shorter things. Put a shelf above the lower rod.

Hang one normal level, with bar below on one wall & one normal level for long items, with shelves above it for folded items, shoes, purses...

Depends on how tall you are and how long the cloths are.
