Not sure what style Tom's you have, but the ones I have are canvas with rubber soles and I was them in washing machine in delicate. Do not put mine in dryer.
stiff brush after the mud has dried, get as much as you can off. Remove any insole. Mild detergent ie one made for babies. Test for color fastness ...q tip type swab, moistened with detergent solution touch to yellow fabric where it shouldnt show, no color on swab your good to go for a 5 min. soak. Remove from detergent rinse well. Let dry. Do not put in dryer. I’d recommend a water resistant spray like ones ment for tents, when all is clean...

As I answered about leather and vinyl handbags, I usually use aerosol shaving creams for ladies. Spray it on, gently rub where needed, wipe it off with a clean cloth, buff if you want a shine. ☺️
Brush off as much of the mud as will come off. The use white (not gel) toothpaste and a damp toothbrush. I use toothpaste on a lot of stuff is sell on Ebay.
