Get some Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth. Ring the garden and your house thickly. It will kill them and any ants around. It is safe for animals.
Hello Cheryl Gillman! I hope this article from THE OLD FARMER'S ALMANAC will help you with the earwig problem (it contains a few solutions to your problem about 1/4 of the way down the page).

Good Luck Cheryl (I mean this sincerely --- I hate earwigs too .. spiders I can handle to some extent but earwigs give me the heebie jeebies).
Thanks for asking Hometalk for solutions ;)
this may sound crazy but if you want a nontoxic easy gaureenteed to work solution check with a plant nursery or gaden center andpossibly even on line just google and see wwhat you find as far as purchasing some good bugs or about a half dozen centipides they will get rid of your problem and centipides are not going to bother you and don't bite humans or carry any kinds of diseases or leave nest behind because they are non nesting bugs they will also get rid of any indoor insect problem like roasches faster than anything and to me thats better thsan having the nasty pest bugs around lady bugs can help with the outdoor ones easily too its a fairly cheap fix that doesnt take any labor or timme to speak of and it will work quicker than you think and i suppose there nothing to prevent you from then just needing to kill the few bugs that you introduced once youre happy you are no longer seeing the pesty ones other than guilt of betrayal but my advice wouild be leave them be then you will know that there in there keeping the ones you dont want out andf youre not introducing any harmful chemicals to the environment

Ahh thankyou all SOOO much!! I really like the idea of getting some "good" bugs to help get rid of the bad bugs!!
Thanks so much for all the info!!
Hi Cheryl, hope this helps.
Specific essential oils have scents that earwigs dislike. Some of the best scents to keep earwigs away include peppermint, eucalyptus, cinnamon and basil. In order to distribute these scents throughout your house, simply put a few drops of essential oil into some water to dilute it.
