I've tried this several years ago. I wanted the flagstone look where I had a cement slab patio. I made my own stencils and switched positions around to make it look more realistic. I used sponges and house paint (which I don't recommend as it peeled up in short time!). I didn't seal it, either. I don't regret trying it, but suggest trying a small area to make sure you like it.
