How do I make a safe fire pit with seating for youth group?

I offer to girls in our community a club called GIRLz ROCK (for girls 10 & up). I would like to make a fire pit so we can do special "campfire nights" where we dig deep into issues like bullying, human trafficking, etc... I need some fun and safe seating for the girls as well as the actual fire pit design. I would also like to add overhead lights in the way of a very simple pergola so on the nights we can't build a fire, we still have the ambiance.
I have a large space in the backyard (sorry but my photo would not upload) that is perfect!

Logs are great seats! You can even get fancy and use two short logs with a “u” cut out to lay a larger log across so that your bench has feet.
There are pavers made specifically for fire pits that fit together in a circle and stack easily.
