You have a big job ahead. I have dug them out one by one with a knife to make sure the root is gone. Do as many as possible before stickers turn brown. That is their seed to multiply. One other thing I found to work is a ground sterilizer but it kills everything for about a year.Either way it takes a lot of time and effort. Good luck
They are a work. You have to get the roots out. We pull ours out to get the root, and then burn or dump in trash. But they spreed fast than rabbits. Good luck.
Cut them off before they go to seed. Try painting the stump with a good weed killer. It may take more than one try to get it to absorb all the way down the roots, but it should eventually kill them. If you see one anywhere that is going to seed, cut the seed off and burn it or put in the garbage before the seed spreads out and starts more plants.
An interesting thing about goatheads is that they thrive in dry conditions. I had a problem with them at a former residence, and my dad told me to water them! I didn't quite believe that, but sure enough, you can drown them. This isn't as permanent as digging them up, since there are still roots waiting for dry conditions. Maybe it will help for now, though.
