Does it get sun? That is the biggest factor in deciding on which plants to buy. Do you like upright tidy plants, or do you like creeping, winding ones? Take a trip to your local nursery and see what grows well in your area. If you want structure, look at the more shrubby types of plants. If you want color, ask about plants that are long-blooming. Another thing to consider is if the site has water, from a sprinkler or will you have to hand water? Do you want to have containers or plant directly in the ground? Do you need compost to enrich the soil?

What type of plant is it?
Ground covers or sedums are quite effortless and durable.
Too many questions behind this one question. M.M. covered a lot of them. I live in a climate that is very hot in the summer....especially with full sun or anything facing West for hot afternoon sun. The back yard does not look like the front. Can you give us a bit more info?
