It may be to over watering. I had the same problem. I changed watering schedule to once every 2 weeks. I live in a very dry climate. That's I watering it once a week. I think it's a succulent therefore needing as much water.

You were asking why yours doesn't do as well as others you have seen and you really have to take a look at each growing condition needed and evaluate what you are doing against those ideal conditions. It's never as simple as "Just add Miracle Grow and the plant will get so strong it'll kick YOU out of the house."
