I have used Chalk paint on just about anything. Be sure to seal it well.
Any furniture that is used outside is not chalk paint material. Chalk paint is for inside use only.
I found this article to be helpful, the thing I took away from it as far as what NOT to use chalk paint on is -- Chalk paint is also not recommended for metal or plastic surfaces.
