I think it’s a pineapple headboard - here’s a little history for you:

Hope that helps! xx
I believe that style is French provincial with pineapple finials. Look for any markings on the piece. If you find a letter, number or image, try to Google it. This will help you to pinpoint the Era. Sometimes it's difficult to differentiate an antique from a mid-century reproduction. They will both be made of good wood. The devil is in the details.
It's hard to tell from the picture. These pieces look to be from a bedroom suite that was popular in the 90's. The dark wood and stylized Victorian look in oversized furniture was very popular then. You certainly got a very good bargain. To reduce the amount of prep work, you might want to try a chalk paint in a lighter color, and then apply a darker coat of wax to seal it and highlight the carving. Talk to anyone that sells chalk paint. They often have sample boards to show the finished look.
No, it is not French Provincial style. FP does not have pineapple motifs and has borders and posts that are more delicate.
Victorian styling with Tropical twist- should have Pineapples or Knobs on the top (Wood or Brass).
I don't know the answer, but you might find a similar style here, on this Pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.com/siarkin/gothic-renaissance-baroque-furniture/?lp=true
It could be in the late 60's or 70's but then could be later. I have my headboard which is rather antique and bought it new in the 60's. Your pieces are very beautful.
it's colonial plantation style....the pineapple is a welcoming symbol of hospitality. common in british territory islands.
unless it was redone.looks like a reproduction of a Federalist era type. It is definitely not French Provincial. Federalist furiiture was very ornate think Lincoln era but doubtful it is an original. Looks in too good shape
Hi Heather:
It looks like teak or mahogany furniture I have seen in antique malls before that came from British territory islands. Looks like you really got a bargain. You could remove most of the ornate carvings on top of the fluted part of the columns on either side of the headboard, and maybe just keep the ball portion. Of course this would make it shorter, but could be a simpler look.
Nice find.

This bed is her most requested piece! (Almost exact, but yours may be better!) And you'd have a great idea for what to do with it!
Here is head and foot board I did for a client to match the dresser I had already done for her in black and copper.
