Measurements for sand and stuff are done in cubic yards. Measure length×width×depth. For example, if your space is 30 feet × 30 feet and you want it 4 inches deep it would look like this 10×10×.0833=8.33 (.0833 Is your 4 inches. You find that by converting your inches to yards 4/12÷3) so you would need 8 1/3 yards
As far as the pavers go, it depends on the size of paver. If it's 10 feet and you buy 1ft pavers you'll have to account for space between unless you want to butt them up
