You can actually add a layer of laminate board over an existing countertop. The original top will need to be roughed up for the new to adhere. Rubber cement is applied to both tops and the new laid in place. A rolling pin can be used to smooth down. Banding can be purchased where the new laminate was bought or ordered on line. Good luck!

They use commerical contact cement, apply to both surface and let dry to tack, the instant the 2 surfaces touch .... its stuck. They use wooden dowels between the 2 surfaces to prevent them touching will applying the glue.
