Where to place rocks near house foundation.

We have a strip of property on our neighbors driveway side that we want to put down river rock so we don't have to mow that area any more. My question is, should there be a space between the foundation and where we start putting the rocks? I've heard that gravel and rocks can direct water to the foundation, and I don't want that to happen.

We have river rock against our foundation. As long as your ground flows away from your house, it should be okay.

Great answer above. You can add a little soil in that area next to the house for about a foot iyt, sloping it downward before putting in the rock just to make sure.

I don't know where you are located, but rocks do not look pretty after a time if there are lots of trees...they tend to look unkept.

Put down some plastic under the rocks to impede grass and weeds from coming in. As for your outter edge next to your neighbor's yard, put down some landscape timbers to hold the rock in. Make this at least 2 high, stabilizing them with rebar hammered into the ground through holes drilled in the end of each piece.

Do this step because rocks tend to scatter and they could become a big safety problem for your neighbor's mowing. Then, walk the area frequently during mowing season to pick up stray rocks before someone is hurt by a rock flying out from a mower.
