Maybe make a shallow rooted planting trough. Put supports at strategic locations or mount on a fence.

This is the embarrassing part, I look up at my gutters and see the sprouts from the neighbors trees and want to get up there and clean it out, that was the inspiration for that idea.

I saw a fun project several years ago, they cut a long slot in their picnic table and put the gutter in it, then filled it with ice and cold beverages for a picnic. Fun!
