Try heating it up with a blow dryer or heat gun, then get some pop sicle sticks or kabob sticks and drag them along the creases and see if that doesn't get some of the wax out.
Gently remove what you can with plastic putty knife then use your iron and lots of paper towels to remove the rest. I removed red wax from a velvety sofa many years ago and it got all of it off. Saved my sofa from the trash heap. By the way it was a beige velvet.
