How do I remove mold growing on a creek rock fireplace?
Most of one wall in our family room is creek rock surrounding a fireplace. Some of the rocks have mold growth after 30+ years. We love the rock work, but hate the mold!

Try cleaning it with a wire brush and vinegar. After the mold is gone reseal it
Plain old white vinegar will take care of that for you. Blot with a car wash sponge, then rinse with clear water. Also is a sign of poor ventilation and too much humidity. Might need a fan or dehumidifier. If you have mold there, you might unknowingly have elsewhere. I would consider a home inspection just to be safe.
Vinegar will cause the limestone to efflorescence and be prepared for that. Agreed, mold is serious stuff and it can be everywhere in your house at this point.
Stachybotrys Poisoning is serious. Don’t skimp on mold testing.
Check that your chimney's flashing and the masonry cap at the top of the chimney are all intact and not leaking.
Bleach will also kill mold do not mix with anything except water apply with sponge . May have to repeat treatment. Let dry several days . I sealed my fireplace which is stop with polyutherine varnish it is really pretty everyone that sees it wants to know what I did to it.flower lady. Ky.
White vinegar and dawn will kill the mold.
Heat the vinegar, mix in about a tablespoon of dawn, fill spray bottle with water. Spray, and clean off in about 10 minutes.
