I believe for me the easiest is stenciling your existing wall. You can also put tin ceiling tiles up with just a few nail holes. I don't like the thought of ceramic tile or peel and stick, because I change my mind too much to live with that for very long.

Depends on taste really lol. I think stones would look great there. Get a bag of stones, some Sheetrock puddy, a trowel, some grout, some spray sealer like Clear Coat spray paint & a roll of paper towels. Clean your surface well & let it dry. With your trowel, cover about 5 inches of space with the puddy. Not tooo much but enough to make the pebbles stick. You don't havta put them on 1 at a time. Grab a handful & with a flat hand, stick'em on there. You could put'em on tightly fitting together or kinda loosely, your choice depending on whatcha like. Once the whole area is covered with the stones. Let them dry for a couple of hours to reinforce their stickiness to the wall. Go to the first place you started & fill in the gaps with the grout. You don't havta put it on heavy, just enough to cover the pebbles a bit & fill in the gaps between them. Wipe smooth with the trowel. When u get to the finish line (so to speak lol), let it dry for about an hour & wipe off the tops of the pebbles with wet paper towels. Some people use cloths but paper towels you can dispose of & don't havta wash or soak out. Let it dry completely overnight. Spray a coat or two of clear coat over the surface of it & it will seal it from moisture & create a shiny surface for easy cleaning. GL

If you are looking for something easy and budget friendly, I used a peel and stick subway tile wallpaper and love the way it turned out. You can check out the way mine came out here http://beautyforasheshome.com/faux-subway-tile-backsplash/
