It is best to let your asphalt driveway cure for 6 or 9 months before you think of sealing it. That is because the oil in the oil in the asphalt needs to evaporate and the less oil the harder the driveway.
Ask the installer how long to wait. You do not want to do it right away. I think it will depend on the climate you live in and the mix that was used. However some people wait a year. It takes asphalt a while to cure.
Seal coatings, in my experience, make the driveway look nice but have a very minimal value in extending the life of an asphalt driveway. My paving contractor recommended waiting at least a year before painting the driveway. I have to wonder why you would not have asked an expert, your driveway installer. In some climates the sealer MAY make a difference in life of your driveway but where I am, in southeast Pennsylvania, I see little benefit.
