There are special strips available to match either color and for various heights. Check with a flooring store or even your local hardware.

If you can take a strip about a foot wide out and replace it with a nice tile, it would put a little distance between them.
You can get wood transition molding between the two floors. You just need to decide which is the dominant room to match the wood color.
