cast iron is ALWAYS good. you just have to season it now. by this you have to add some oil in the pan, heat it up and let it cool down. once it cools, wipe it out with paper towels, ready for cooking!
Oh my goodness! A cast iron pan will last forever if properly cared for. NEVER EVER use an sos pad in a cast iron pan. Here is how to care for and season it properly.

Just "re-season"that should work
Thank you. Just reg vegetable oil is good for seasoning the pan?
Yes! Be sure to put the oil on the outside as well as the inside. Place in the oven at 350 degrees for at least 2 hours.
I hate to tell you this, mine gets hand washed with dish soap, scrubbed, and dried on the oven burner and then oiled.
IRON SKILLETS NEVER GO BAD!!! SOAK AND SCRUB IT DOWN, THROUAGHLY DRY BY PLACING IN OVEN FOR ABOUT 10 TO 15 MINUTES AT ABOUT 300 DEGREES. THEN OIL IT DOWN COMPLETY INSIDE SKILLET AND LET SET OVER NIGHT. IF IN REALLY BAD SHAPE BAKE IN OVEN AFTER OILING DOWN WITH VEGETABLE OIL TO CURE IT AGAIN. AFTER THAT I WOULD NEVER WASH WITH SOAP AGAIN. OTHERWISE THE CURED SKILLET HAS TO BE REDONE AGAIN. YOU'LL LOVE THE FOOD THAT IS COOKED IN AN IRON SKILLET, NOTHING BETTER!
GOOD LUCK!
