Clean up the clutter. Get a file cabinet and put away the papers. Use the top it the cabinet for your printer. Get cable ties and wrap the cords.
For starters, get rid of your computer and use a lap top. Believe me you won't miss it. You can get a wireless keyboard and mouse to use with it.
Get rid of the desk, do a longer desk, that has a filing cabinet attached, then the printer can set on top as well. Then add shelving above the desk for the scanner, the CPU can go below the desk. Organize paper in the file, do some cord management with zip ties, add an attractive and comfortable chair. I personally hate wo on my laptop. I always feel hunched over it and end up with a back/neck ache. So keep the larger monitor and go to a wireless keyboard and mouse, that will help with some of the cord clutter.
Use up some of that vertical space; maybe wood crates stacked 3 or 4 high; hide the paper mess; consider cute wire baskets also hung vertically; Command hooks have special ones just for cables. Check some of the awesome posts here for inspiration. Good luck!
paint everything to match.. add doors to the square cube thing or turn it sideways and put a back on it so it is 2 sided.. and you can hide everything. add new drawer pulls to something modern...
Whatever desk you use, move it away from the fireplace.
a desk and storage units like these from IKEA can help organize your small office... the KALLAX units have draw, door, and basket/bin accessory options that can help hide all the clutter
You need to use the drawers, hiding some of the clutter with drawers is a very easy fix, maybe with the table on the left, you could add some baskets, like seagrass ones to reduce the cluttery look. Under the desk is another spot for a basket that would tidy up the look, the objective is to hide as much of the clutter and wiring as you can.
I'd clear away the clutter that you don't need and move what you can below the desk, just so it doesn't interfere with the chair. Then I'd add a skirt to hide what's underneath from view. THen add a small unit next to the desk or some pretty baskets to house what's leftover.
