My method is to type Best Toilet into Google. You’ll get Consumer Reports, Consumer Reviews and another twenty or so educated opinions. Make a chart.

Decide what’s most important to you. Installation and ease of cleaning are on my list. The fewer curlicues the better. Getting under the rim. For that matter, height. I have a 29” inseam, his is 35”.

Not to be blithe, but efficiency and water usage are really two different things.

Low flow toilets do make a difference. You don't need to buy an expensive one, they don't work any better...speaking from experience.

You can buy a dual flush which uses less water for liquid waste, but they aren't necessary.

I have 3 different toilets 1 was expensive: A-S, 1 very cheap: Crane and 1 resonably-priced: A-S Mainstream. The one I like best is the American Standard Mainstream 4.8L Elongated Complete Toilet. It is very efficient, doesn't stain like my expensive one, and flushes completely the first time. My cheapest one sometimes needs 2 flushes.

Keep away from BB store brands.

there are low flow options available, its been a few years i hope they are better designed in this decade. the float in the toilet regulates how much water is used to flush. you can take a portion of water out of the tank, bend the float so its on top of the new water level, or add a red brick to the tank. try these out, see if they help..if they do great. my plumber a great great guy... is retiring this year.

We replace our two toilets in the house last winter. We went to Home Depot, and got the 99 dollar ones with the dual flush buttons on the top of the tank. It has the elongation and height hubby wanted (I have a problem keeping my feet on the floor, but it is easier for him to get up). They have been working great, are easy to clean. We did replace the toilet seat that came with it, we both hated it. You don't have to spend a fortune to get a decent toilet that looks nice and is easy to clean.

I think you will like them, cheap, easy to install, both were done in a couple of hours from taking the old ones out and installing the new ones. For cheap, they are great toilets. We went with the soft close seats, the ones that came with them were kind of flimsy and didn't sit quite right on the toilet.

The American Standard Champion is quite good but it is loud, so if that bothers you (when you are sleeping) try Consumer Reports for another.
