Charlesetta... You will probably need to sand also but in my mind the prep is the most important. Clean with a grease removal product and many time sanding will remove much buildup!

To clean them I use Murphy's Oil Soap. You can see my tutorial here for that part - https://chascrazycreations.com/cleaning-kitchen-cabinets/
After that you can paint with a chalk or mineral paint and there will be little to no prep work, a little goes a long way, easy to use, etc.
