This beautiful, bright room is has tons of light and beauty, but it is so inefficient. Would love ideas to control heat and cooling losses but keep all the sunlight.
Pretty.... only thing I can think off is the one-way UV/heat resistant window film on the sunniest side. You could also add a reversible ceiling fan to blow the warm air down when too cool, and reverse to suck the hot air up.
This sunroom has great potential for living space. At the present time though, it looks like just a junky area for extra plants. The plants in front of the window are competing with the light and airy view from the beautiful big windows.
The first thing I would do to improve it is to remove all the plants, and to bring in some furniture. The space needs furniture to give it an inviting look and make it feel like it is somewhere you want to stay for a while, rather than it being just a pass through space. Move the furniture around to position it where you feel most comfortable in/have the nicest views. Limit the plants only to those that you like the most and place them closer together on different heights in one area. This would give it a more cohesive look. Do you have any lamps that could be moved into the room so that there is reading light beside the seating areas?
Do you want to use the space as a year round room? Do you live in an area that has four seasons? To help abate the heat coming into the room, install exterior awnings on the outside. The crank (open/close) style permits them to be closed during stormy or cold weather.
For added heat during cooler times, add baseboard level portable electric heaters and cozy electric throws.
What a pretty room! Do you need sliding glass doors on all 3 sides? If not, consider replacing one or two sides with more energy efficient windows. If budget allows, I would consider replacing the slider too, they have come a long way.
My house has a sunroom that is about 20x12' and it has eleven windows and a full glass door leading to the outside front porch. It gets hot in the sunroom in really hot weather, but I have an overhead fan that helps. I open the windows
I use roll up bamboo shades. I can roll them down on the side that is blasting sun and keep up the ones that arent. They still let in filtered light even when down. Most of the time I have them rolled 1/3 of the way down to shade the room. It really helps.
