Feature Wall with Shiplap or Timberwall

I want to know why all instruction videos for feature wall installations using either shiplap or peel and stick wood boards say to start from the bottom. I have 120 square foot wall I want to make a feature wall in my livingroom. If the boards that end up at the top need cutting to fit the final row, would that not be more noticeable? Would it not be better to start from the top down?

You start at the bottom because that’s where it is easiest to ensure a perfect horizontal line.

For less than $10, you can get a lazer at HD to help you mark a straight line for your first row, much like a plumbers plumb-bob. Mark with chalk.

The second reason is simply gravity. One board may rest gently on the one below it.

Hi Helen I understand your question it was one that I thought of as I was watching a DIY project on this type of installation I found this information on youtube:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EixfsDZDENA

and it didn't really go over the "what happens when you get to the top and it is not level so I searched through the comments and found his reply to someone else who had the question the answer is " Jordan Smith1 month ago

My preferences: Scribe the top board to the ceiling. Trace the bow of the ceiling into your top board by using a block of wood and pencil, then cut the bow into the board to match the ceiling. Don't use filler, it will look too DIY. Split the difference in the top and bottom boards. This will make it look well thought out." Which is how you start the first board at the bottom

Good luck with your project would love to see pictures when you are finished!!
