Painting my kitchen cabinets

If I DIY my kitchen cabinets, how do I go about painting the body of the cabinets? I have been told that using a sprayer on the doors makes them look best but wouldn't it be a mess to paint the body of the cabinets with a sprayer?

  • And now you know why professional painters charge so much money. It is all in the prep. You certainly can spray the cabinets themselves but it will take a ton of work to do so. Every single thing needs to be taped off and protected, everything. Did I say everything? I suggest in investing in a really good brush and using that instead. Depending on the type of paint you are using, some people like foam applicators. Test in an inconspicuous spot and see which works better for you.

You can just paint the body of the cabinets with a brush. Unless you are willing to remove the cabinets from the wall and take them outside to spray I would not choose to spray the cabinet boxes in the house! When you spray in the house with a paint sprayer there are clouds of tiny paint particles floating in the air and it gets on EVERYTHING--even if you tape th ings off and close off rooms with plastic. Plus breathing it in is probably not very healthy! I used a acrylic latex paint in an enamel finish to do my kitchen cabinets. I see no brush marks. I primed first after I cleaned my cabinets well. This is the paint to use for kitchen cabinets--it's made for kitchen cabinets--it wears well and washes well. I did 2 -3 coats.
