Ok, what is your project? You can hang art in the stairwell.
I have the same dilemma, I was thinking of hanging a quilt, painted drop cloth, or large art piece on a cable with a string. Once the cable was mounted I could put a string on each end to guide the quilt to the location I want along the cable. Switch art or whatever out without a ladder.
