Hi Christine, I'd stain it now.
6 months to 1 year. need to dry out. Use a good UV rated deck stain.
Your best bet is a penetrating stain, transparent or semi transparent, the more solid the color the less the stain penetrates
Christine, I would check with the people who put in the deck to see what kind of wood they used...then go to somewhere like Sherwin Williams to see what kind of sealant to use. Keep in mind that the opaque is like paint...it will peel. Most treated wood has to "cure" before treating.
